Invisogirl: Episode 1, The News, or Something Else, Webnovel, Invisogirl

“And once again, the day is saved by Invisogirl,” Blair chimes. She has been reading the news since the last mishap, two years ago, but despite how chipper she tries to sound, she can never get it right.

“Yes, Invisogirl,” her partner, Olamide, chimes in. He is a pro. “She swoops in, and that is the end of the bank robbery.”

“Yes,” Blair chirps, the veins in her fake smile trying to pop. “Let’s take a look at the clip, shall we?”

The screen cuts to the CCTV view of a department store; the camera is over the counter, facing the door. Two seemingly normal-looking men walk in, appearing to shop. However, as they approach the counter, they become more agitated.

The store owner presses one of many buttons hidden from the customer’s view. The men reach the counter, point to something behind the shop owner, and as he turns to get it, they both whip out their guns.

“Now, look at that,” Olamide chimes in.

“Yes, crimes like these have been happening a lot. Remember last week?” Blair scuffs within a smile. “The tragedy, because Invisogirl was not there,” Blair chimes.

“I mean, she is Invisogirl, not Omnipresent Girl,” Olamide says, and Blair laughs.

The CCTV footage continues. A silhouette is now standing in front of the entrance. The rays of light make her look like a stereotypical superhero, but as the light fades, she becomes clearer. The footage is in black and white and silent, yet she appears is loud, as if too many colors are competing against her personality.

“And Invisogirl shows up before things get gory,” Blair scoffs.

“At this point, I believe that only luck is responsible when someone is saved by Invisogirl,” Olamide smiles.

Invisogirl begins to hurl items from the shelves at the criminals. At first, they act like they can’t see her, seeming confused. She keeps hurling things at them.

“An in visible Superhero saves us.” Blair chimed. “Someone we can’t even see to say thank you to!”

Then one of the men points a gun directly at her, the buff guy, he has had enough, but it’s only then that the cashier ducks for cover and covers his head. The second guy screams at the buff guy.

Invisogirl stops; she checks herself as if questioning her reality. The two men keep arguing; the buff guy refuses to put his gun down. The other guy runs to the counter and begins emptying it. He screams out something and focuses on looting the store.

“I mean, that is something,” Blair adds. “The world truly would be crime-free. Imagine an invisible superhero showing up just in the nick of time to save us from the crazies, the entitled criminals, and the psychopaths, just in the nick of time.”

“Look at the fear!” Olamide screams.

Olamide frowns. A clear-colored shot of the buff guy comes on, unalived. He is hanging upside down from the roof. The hand that triggered the gun is cut off and shoved in his mouth, and the gun up his rectum, and his genitals, no more.

Invisogirl hurls a can at the buff guy. He pulls the trigger, and in a blink, like a gust of wind swept in, the buff guy is gone.

“Such fear,” Blair echoes, scared. She smiles.

The first guy kneels down, puts his hands behind his head, and Invisogirl dances in victory. The video skips to the police taking the grateful first thief away.

“That’s some lucky storekeeper,” Olamide laughs.

Blair looks at the camera, dead on. “But let’s remember why we are afraid of Invisogirl.”

Olamide frowns. A clear-colored shot of the buff guy comes on, unalived. He is hanging upside down from the roof. The hand that triggered is cut off and shoved in his mouth, and the gun up his rectum, and his genitals, no more.

“Yes, you are right,” Olamide says. “She probably blew out his nerves first.”

Blair gasps.

“I mean, fate, fate is her greatest power.” Olamide corrected. “She is the consequence that befalls those who dismiss her.”

Blair takes a deep breath.

“Yes, there is always a warning to keep us all in place, even the government.” Blair forcefully chippers. “Remember, there is only one rule, she is invisible, and none of us can see her.”
