Ebuka sat on the cold, dusty floor of the abandoned storehouse, his back against the wall. His younger brother, Chukwuma, was huddled beside him, sobbing uncontrollably, his head resting on Ebuka’s lap. The weight of their ordeal pressed heavily on them, mingling with the sting of shattered illusions.

“I’m so sorry,” Ebuka said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. “I never meant for things to go this far.”

Chukwuma’s tear-streaked face looked up at him, eyes brimming with anguish. “But what about Mummy and Daddy? They’ll never see kobo now. Everything’s ruined.”

Ebuka’s gaze softened. He brushed a gentle hand through his brother’s damp hair. “It’s not your fault. Their problems are theirs alone. Daddy’s more interested in chasing luck than building a future, and Mummy? She’s too busy trying to outshine everyone else. Even if you handed them the world, they’d squander it and be right back where they started.”

Chukwuma’s tears continued to flow as he processed his brother’s words. Ebuka glanced over at Oyinbo, who was still in shock, his wide eyes fixed on the scene. “I can’t believe you actually did it,” Ebuka said, shaking his head in disbelief. “How did you pull it off?”

Oyinbo, desperate for a reprieve, began to speak, his voice trembling. “I’ll tell you everything. The real plan was to kidnap the Baalẹ́’s daughter.”

Ebuka’s eyes widened with interest. “The Baalẹ́’s daughter? That’s new. Tell me everything.”

As dawn broke and the first light of day began to filter through the dusty windows, the arrival of the police brought a tense silence. The children, their faces a mix of triumph and fear, stood together, the three tied-up men their grim trophies. Ebuka took charge of the narrative, instructing Chukwuma and his friends to remain silent, by telling them that they had committed a crime and could go to jail for it.

With the skill of a practiced storyteller, Ebuka spun a tale of bravery: how he had overheard the plot to kidnap Father Christmas and rallied the children to thwart the sinister scheme.

The Baalẹ́, grateful for the heroes who had saved his daughter, Turayo, rewarded them generously. Ice cream, Christmas toys, and accolades followed. The children basked in the praise, while their parents experienced a whirlwind of emotions—relief, pride, and a touch of disbelief at the wild turn of events.

And this time for real, they all lived happily ever after, for a day, I mean, this is Nigeria.

And that’s the end! Hope you enjoyed reading Kidnapping Father Christmas, it was really just meant to be a quick and fun read. If you enjoy stories of Nigerian children getting up to mischief you may enjoy this story A Funny Weekend For High School Boy
