I kept on staring dumbfounded at Daniella. Why did her life have to be so, so interesting! Argh!! How could she do that to me? She just moved her game up like that! Ha! What am I saying? I’m happy for her……. I think.

“Bimbo!” she said with that puppy dog face that we both practiced when we were jobless, and I must say she has gotten pretty good at it.

“Don’t worry! I’m happy that you finally fell in love.” I gave her a huge hug.

“LOVE? NO! NO! NO WAY!!” she shrieked!

“But you said you ….”

“I said I told him I was only playing him, and he was okay with it.” She interrupted me.

The truth was that I knew what she said; I just wanted her to re-say it. “So the game is still on!” I hugged her again.

“What’s with the constant hugging?” she pushed me away. That’s why I like her, always so though “I’m not sure I want to play him, even if I play him, I will feel bad playing him and another guy.” She stood up from the bed and went to get her book and assignment slip.

“Come on!” I said, turning on her laptop. We both use the same password. I know, so cliché! “See, from what you’ve said, Bolaji thinks you are only playing games, so he is going to continue his life thinking of you only as a playmate. Hence, love is not going to be involved in it.” Her password box finally came up, and I hoped her common sense too.

“I’m not sure, I really think I like him.” She is so stubborn!

“See, Dan, you are going to be very heartbroken when you see him and Cynthia make out, and believe me, he will make you see it!” I said seriously.

“You know what? When that time comes, you are the first person I will come to, Bimbo!” She left the room with her book. I only shook my head and shut down her laptop. I was usually the one being looked out for. Now I was looking out for her. Cool!

+Daniella+

As I left the room and walked down the stairs, my mind kept onracing back to last night.

When I entered his house, I was dumbfounded at the size until I remembered that he was the minister of finance’s son. But still, it was big. For a student!

He lived in a duplex, and his sitting room was twice the size of mine. We walked up the stairs, he took me to an empty room which was also big, and he left me alone without making any seductive move, but not trusting myself, I went to his room in the middle of the night and snuggled close to him. He was shocked at first when he felt me beside him, but he wrapped his arm around me, and I fell asleep.

What am I doing? I don’t want to get hurt, I don’t want to be miserable; in short, I don’t want to fall in love!

I cleared my mind of Bolaji and concentrated more on walking to my sadistic lecturer’s office to submit my assignment.

“Good morning, sir,” I said, stepping into his office.

“What’s your problem?” he asked without looking up at me and with a ‘what’s this pest doing here?’ tone.

“I don’t have a problem; I only came to submit my assignment. Sir,” I waited for his permission to submit, holding the slip over his table.

He liftedhis headp from his newspaper, and I saw a huge grin on his face.. .h, Daniella, it’s you!”

Why the familiarity? This man is creepy.

“You’ve always had as in my courses,” he said, taking my slip from me.

“Thank you, sir,” I said, still very suspicious of the change of attitude.

“You are definitely a student I would like to know.”

WHAT? EWWWWW!

“Sir, what do you mean?” I asked, pushing the recorder button on my handset.

“See Daniella, you are a bright student, very intelligent, and I would like to know you beyond academics,” he said, standing up from his seat and coming closer to me. I was mentally screaming for MANIAC!

This man is not only a sadist, but he is also a pervert.

I had heard of other girls sleeping with him for marks, but I never expected him to see me. I mean, I am intelligent, so I don’t need my marks increased. Plus, his physical features were nothing to write home about. He is short, has a bald head, no potbelly, but I would bet with my life that beneath that suit, there was not a glimpse of abs, probably flabs. And he was beyond ugly. Sometimes, I even related his sadistic behaviours to his deficiencies because, believe me. He was deficient in a lot of areas; height, looks, hair, name it!

“Sir, it’s inappropriate for a lecturer to know his student beyond education.” I stepped away from his desk as he came closer to me.

“I can see that you are not yet exposed.” he stopped moving, then retreated to his seat, and I kept on staring at his every movement even till he sat down. The feeling was like he could bring out a gun at any point. “Leave my office!” He ordered.

I wasted no time in leaving his office and walked as far as I could away from his office.

Why was my life turning into a Nigerian movie?

My class was to start at 9 am, I looked at my handset, noticed the time was 7:39 am, plus my recorder was still on. I played it close to my ears and sighed. I never thought I would ever cause a lecturer to end his sadistic reign. I had to find his wife or a higher authority.

I walked to my faculty holding my phone very tightly; nothing could happen to it. Until that man’s life got ruined.

The sadistic lecturer must have gotten Bolaji out of my mind……. Wait.

My eyes almost fell out!

Bolaji was kissing his girlfriend!

Worse, he looked at me and smirked with his lips still on hers.

‘This is just a game! This is just a game! This is just a game’ I smiled at him after repeating those words in my head, and I continued walking back to my class.

Today was just not my day.

“Bimbo!” A voice from behind me said.

“Stranger,” I said, not turning around.

“Is that how you greet old friends?” the voice, which I now recognized to be Clara’s, asked.

“Oh! I seemed to have forgotten the date we became friends.” I gave her a fake smile, and she returned it.

“See, I don’t have time for this!” She took a threatening step closer to me. “Stay away from Desmond!”

“Or what?” I smirked.

“You don’t want to know, or what.” She smirked back.

“Look sisi! I love him! He is smart, funny, handsome, and caring! Can’t you see? I won’t leave him for anything.” I paused to savour her facial expression, “Remember that statement?” I asked with another smirk, and this time she did not return the smirk.

“That’s low!” she said, as if I should be ashamed.

“It’s life,” I smiled, “Remember when you stole my boyfriend? And you dumped him the following week?” My smile faded, “Remember all the times you tried to make my life miserable?” and turned into a frown, “Karma always comes back.”

“I know you seek revenge, but go find it somewhere else. Desmond is my fiancé, and I love him.” She almost sounded like she was about to beg me.

“That’s why it’s called revenge.” I turned back to face the direction of my class, something that we were, unfortunately, having together.

“You know what? It’s on!” She said, walking past me.

+Bolaji+

“Baby, you hardly kiss me. What’s wrong?” Cynthia asked, a little turned on after I kissed her, because I saw Daniella coming, and the reason was clearly obvious.

“Am I that bad?” I asked, putting my arm around her waist and pulling her closer to me as I walked her to her class.

“Yes, you are that bad,” she replied, but didn’t pull away. “You don’t like me, you only pretend to like me when our parents are around, and you only kiss me when we are having dinner with our parents.”

“Wow.” She was right.

“What went wrong, Bola?” She looked up at me, still snuggled on my chest, “We used to be best friends.”

I walked silently with her till we got to her class, and I watched her enter before I left for my class. I felt really guilty about having to pretend that I liked her; she really didn’t deserve it.

Our fathers are best friends and business partners, so we pretty much grew up being best friends, and since I was an only child, I ended up seeing her as nothing more than a sister. But as we grew older, our parents got too excited and started arranging our marriage, and I guess that’s when I began to hate ever meeting her.

Unlike those romantic novels where the two people fall in love. I hated knowing her with every day that passed, plus she wasn’t even helping; she nagged a lot, too.

To be continued…
